Had a meeting over in the Stuart Hall building – named after the great cultural theorist of the OU, not the other one.

State of Britain
Storm Imogen hit today – it was wheelie bin Armageddon.
Choosing seats
Exciting day today (Note: completely not exciting for anyone else) – we got to choose our seats in the new Ice Arena Wales. The Cardiff Devils will move in here in two weeks, after 10 years of ‘temporary’ accommodation. We wanted four together at the back (we like to stand up and shout). After a bit of wrangling (some people had left single gaps between seats but they kindly agreed to budge up, to give us some all together). The new arena looks great, we’ll be able to see the team benches and the scoreboard!
We are number 1
Cardiff devils played Coventry Blaze (again) tonight. We went into the game top of the league, but with Braehead able to catch us with games in hand. We won a tough game, but they lost, which means even if they win their games in hand, they’re still a point behind. Mind you there is a long way to go yet, and we play big teams, so nothing is decided. But still, nice to be top.
Here Stewart of the Blaze stretches before the game.
Snuggly
Yes, it’s another Bruno pic. If you see a Bruno pic here it is code for “I haven’t done much today apart from work”.
Bruno is short haired and shivers a lot. I’m not sure if this is a nervous thing, a muscle twitch thing or because he’s cold (I haven’t had him in the summer yet so don’t have comparison). Anyway daughter put the ‘sickness’ blanket on him tonight and he seemed to like it. The sickness blanket is thus named because I came down with a nasty fever once travelling back from France and was shivering uncontrollably, so daughter bought me this blanket on the ferry. Now whenever anyone is ill, the sickness blanket is called for.
Chinese restaurant list
My daughter came across a list of the top 8 Chinese restaurants in Cardiff. so we’re working our way through them (this was after she’d enjoyed The Happy Gathering over Christmas). Tonight was The Crispy Duck. This is Malaysian chicken. Jolly nice it was to.
Back home
Bruno spent the day with my parents (see yesterday). They dropped him to me at 5 and we drove home. He was a good boy, but we didn’t get back till about 8,30, so took him for a walk on the mean streets of Ton straight away
New kinds of meeting
Had an odd working day, working from three different locations. I got up and did some emailing at home, then drove to OU. Here I had a meeting with Hannah Gore, where we both walked our rescue dogs. Then I had a meeting with another colleague sitting outside the Hub while Bruno barked at people. Then I went to my parents and did three hours there. It was a family meal tonight, hence the complicated dog related arrangements.
Here Bruno meets Toby, Hannah’s dog.
Dogs aren’t allowed in buildings at the OU. For which, boooooo.
the price of procrastination
As some people who follow me on twitter will know, the other evening I was struggling to write a paper. In that moment of procrastination I found myself looking at bonsai trees on ebay. I bought one. It arrived today, and I have to say for 12 quid, it’s rather nice. But next time, just write the paper.
