I am up in the Isle of Lewis, giving a talk for my friend & fellow blipper, Frank Rennie. I arrived last night by plane, but the poor students (it’s a research student conference) came by ferry. It was rough sailing & they were 2 hours delayed. Weather was calmer this morning

Martian advice
This line is from the film the Martian. Sometimes it’s the only way
Grangemoor view
I took Pip for a walk over Grangemoor park today. Is it an old rubbish tip site that has been converted to a bit of moorland by the river. There is an artwork at the highest point, with views all around Cardiff. There is also a Starbucks nearby, should you need a muffin.
Shoot
Cardiff devils player scoring during practice yesterday. We beat Manchester Storm 5-2, it was a good game with a goal burst in the second period and then a long penalty kill in the third.
Too early?

Sheffield
I was up early to go to Sheffield today, where I was the external for PhD viva. It was looking at academic use of twitter, and was very interesting.
Old skool infographic

Spider metropolis
This is where all the trendy, hipster spiders live, in these cool, high rise webs
New kindle
I lost my Kindle, an old 3rd gen one with the keyboard, on the way back form South Africa. I know Amazon are evil and all that, but I do like a Kindle and it is the best ereader. Particularly as I’m still doing my book-a-week thing.
I don’t read much sci-fi, I did a lot as a teenager (obvs) and read a lot of the classic stuff then. I think I read Androids then, but not sure, so re-reading it.
