Palau Güell

Had a session at Eden this morning, then a few project meetings this afternoon. After this, Sheila MacNeill, Audrey Watters, Jim Groom and I went for a walk around Las Ramblas (but without real intent). This is Gaudi building, the Palau Guell.

Edtech gang

I spent the day out at the Open University of Catalonia in a meeting about elearning journals, then got the metro back to the centre of town. Here I met up with Sheila MacNeill, Doug Belshaw, Bryan Mathers and Audrey Watters. We spent an hour or so having coffee and chatting about films, edtech, europe vs america, films, food, films. Was a good session.

Extreme enough

I did my first 10 mile run today since January. I enjoyed it, kept up a reasonable pace (for me) of about nine and half minutes per mile. For a while I was hanging around with an ultra running crowd, and I didn’t like it much. It’s all very competitive, people like to tell you how bonkers they must be to do their crazy runs. If it’s not 50 miles over mountains with a grand piano strapped to your back, don’t even mention it.
I am glad to be out of that, I like being in a world where 10 miles is a long run, and afterwards you’re entitled to a muffin and a nap.

Cannon fodder

Daughter and I went to a Slow Food event at St Fagans outdoor museum today. The food event was disappointing, basically just a tent with the sort of welsh produce I can get at my local farm shop (believe it or not, no-one was selling pulled pork). There was a civil war battle reenactment happening also, with this very loud cannon.
Anyone who makes a “shooting their load” comment needs to sit on the naughty step, okay?

Sunny daze

Pip does like a bit of sunshine to lie in. She lay on the door step, her head flopping outside. It looked uncomfortable, but she maintained it for a couple of hours, so I guess not.

Tech pop-up with @documentally

Christian, aka Documentally, was on campus today. He’s trying a new method of offering support for social media and tech, by setting up camp on campus. He showed me around his marvellous array of solar panels, chargers, video kit, and yes, an axe. It seems like a nice, informal way of getting staff to come and ask questions. If you fancy him coming to your campus, drop him a tweet.

Team OERKix

The OER Research Hub had a team outing tonight to the Airkix indoor skydiving thing in Milton Keynes. We had two 1 minute goes each, including a stomach churning high fly whiz to the top. Was good fun.

Hipster Ale

Yep, an ale actually called Hipster Ale. I thought surely hipster ale would come in a bottle, but maybe that’s too obvious, and real hipsters are going for cans now. Anyway, it arrived in my Beer 52 collection, I have yet to sample it.
