The direction out

So my daughter had a bad cough last week, and naturally passed it on to me. I’ve been hacking away all week, which has made sleep difficult. I’ve always found the “3 days coming, 3 days here, 3 days going” heuristic good for colds, which made today they eye of the storm. I’ve not been able to do any running and this is a crucial week for half marathon training, so that’s the worst of it. Still, at least it’ll be gone in 4 days.

Lemon bee

“whisper words of wisdom, oh, lemon bee”

A bee on my lemon tree – the leaves are sticky and it seems to like them, so I wonder if there is some sugary substance in that secretion.

In French a bee isĀ abeille, which doesn’t offer as many puns for “etre” as bee/be in English. Bees need to work on that.

Tent test

Will be going camping in the summer, so dug out an old tent that hasn’t been used for 10 years or so. After some testing managed to get it up. It was a lot bigger than I remembered. Perhaps I should leave it up as a kind of cheap summer house.

Lazy day bouquet

It rained all day, and as I’d been away all week I opted for a lazy day indoors. And in blip terms that means, photographing flowers in your house. This is a supermarket bunch, with one rose from my garden added for variety.

Coq au vin

Came back from Barcelona today. Cooked a coq au vin, and took the advice often given that you should use a good quality wine to cook with (to a brit, that always seems like a waste – I could be drinking it!). It was very nice, but right at the end realised I didn’t have any flour to create a thickener, so sauce was a bit thin. About two minutes after this photo I tipped half of it in my lap. How I laughed.
