Warm up

on ice. Here the Devils go through their pre-match stretches. Good game tonight, we played Braehead Clan, went 3-1 up, drew 4-4 in normal time and then won in sudden death overtime. The Clan were the best side I’ve seen this season, so it was fast moving, violent and action-packed.

Chips ahoy!

On this momentous day when Scotland votes, I thought I’d blip… biscuits. I like the US band The Hold Steady, who sing about low-lifes and the seedy underbelly of life. Sort of like a punked up Springsteen. Anyway, one of my favourite tracks of theirs is called Chips Ahoy, which starts off with the lyrics: “She put $900 on the fifth horse in the sixth race/ I think its name was Chips Ahoy/ Came in six lengths ahead, we spent the whole next week getting high”
I didn’t know Chips Ahoy was a biscuit brand in the US, but it’s a perfect name for the type of horse that would be in this song (nothing pompous like “Majestic Son”). So when I saw them in Asda today I had to purchase them, mainly for this blip. They’re not a classy biscuit.

Let there be cake

Or rather tart, but if I made title “Let there be tart” people might come expecting a very different photo. The Bakewell tart, a gift from the good people of Bakewell: “The Bakewell tart is a traditional English baked cake native to the town of Bakewell.”

Art schools

Went to Cardiff Book Club tonight and afterwards we decamped to Chapter Arts Centre. This is written in big letters in the bar. My first reaction was “yeah, right on!”, but then I thought “should they? Why not science schools?”. My daughter wouldn’t want to go to an art school I know that. So, nice slogan, but I don’t agree.

Jam today

As promised yesterday, here is the blackberry jam made from yesterday’s pickings. It is damn fine I have to say. I was always put off making jam, because I thought it was complicated and messy. It is a bit messy, but very simple. More jam!

Jam tomorrow

Went blackberry picking tonight, while daughter was horseriding. The crop wasn’t as bumper as I’d anticipated last week, I think someone else has been along there (damn them!). Still, got a couple of tubs, hopefully enough to make some jam tomorrow. “The rule is, jam to-morrow and jam yesterday – but never jam to-day”
Tomorrow’s blip may contradict this.
