So, there’s this heron that lives around by us, and I often see him/her on the old canal, or by the Taff, or as here, by a stream. Yet I never manage to capture a photo of him. Twice today he took off majestically just as I got my camera out. And then he went and hid behind a tree, taunting me. I feel I am becoming quite Ahab like in my quest to capture him.

A brace of Daves
Dave Cormier demonstrates his biro playing technique to a befuddled Dave White. This is two Daves too many.
The good people of Eccles
gave to the world their marvellous cake. Bless them all. There are people who don’t like an Eccles cake. These are not people we should concern ourselves with.
Hard and soft power
Ivy creeping up to a transformer box (or whatever it is). The ivy will win in the long run
Hanging out
Tried Google Hangout today. having always defaulted to Skype before. It worked very nicely. Here I am chatting with George Siemens and Alan Levine
One tree hill
I had been scheduled to run the Llanelli marathon today, but a week in India, and then two weeks with a dodgy belly on my return pretty much destroyed my training schedule, and I don’t have enough reserve fitness to ‘just do it’. So I went for an 8 miler over the ridgeway near us, where this tree stood alone on the ascent.
Wild horses
Leaving the New Forest today, so one last pony shot. The ponies in the new forest are all owned, but they live wild I think, and are rounded up once a year.
Cycle route
We went for a nice bike ride through the New Forest today which took in some forest, moorland, and, yes, a pub. It was gloriously sunny until half a mile from the campsite when the most almighty hail storm fell on us. It was painful, but we limped home.
Geocaching treasure
We are staying in the New Forest for a few days and went geocaching today. It was good fun and got us to explore parts of the forest we wouldn’t have done.
Dramatic sky
As the sun was setting over the campsite tonight, it produced some amazing colours against the clouds.
