Modern life is rubbish #47

Now, generally I’m in favour of new technology, but sometimes it’s nice to see the old guard getting their revenge…
In our nice new building at work we have these zip taps for instance hot water. Kettles were banned on health and safety (and one suspects, non-sexiness) grounds when we moved in. The problem is the zip taps produce funny tasting water and are broken half the time, which has meant the trusty old kettle has been brought out of retirement to fulfil our hot beverage needs.
Who’s laughing now, mr zip tap?

Pylons

Went for a 17 mile run up to around Eglwysilan today. It was chilly, but a lovely clear day, you could see down to the coast and up to the Beacons. My wife is a good navigator, so discovers all these runs and then puts them on a GPS device for the navigationally challenged such as me.

Goodbye cruel world

A message from the camera: This is the last day of my master’s 365 project. This is the second one he has done, but the first with me. Over the past year we have laughed, cried and sworn together. I have captured every sunset he could see, any vaguely interesting object in his office, every plant on the dog walk. But now, he says, the year is over and he will not continue. I am abandoned, bereft, no longer loved.
Goodbye cruel world, I go to a dark drawer only to see the light again at Christmas and birthdays.

The lesser spotted fail whale

Ah, my old friend, the fail whale. For those of us who have been on twitter for 5 years or more, we recall nostalgically the great Fail Whale days of 2008, when they were re-engineering their system. Then it was more prevalent than the actual functioning site. Now it is such an integral part of society, they couldn’t get away with it, people would start suing them for loss of an essential service. So, I guess it was Olympics overheating or something, but I had a ‘hello old friend’ moment when I saw it yesterday.
Yes, I know it’s not a very good photo for my 300th blip, but in that it is a bit crap, rushed and lacking artistic merit, I think it is quite appropriate.

The working life

When I did my degree back in the late 80s, we still used to hand in handwritten assignments. No-one would do that now. It is still amazing to think how completely our working lives have been transformed by computers. Now, most of us spend most of our day in front of one. It doesn’t make for very interesting photography.

The logo

We have a VW California and today it went in for its annual service (needed 2 new tyres, plus balancing, plus brake fluid = ouch). It is now ready for the annual big european vacation in the summer (to Rome and back).
VW really have a brand to die for, people feel real affection for them. I’m not the type to go to VW rallies or anything, but I do love the attention to detail in the Cali. But if you want to portray surfer cool you only have to sketch an old campervan or a beetle and it’s like a universal language.
