I presented about OER today at a launch of a collaboration between the OU & Coleg Cymraeg to release bilingual resources. The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Kirsty Williams, spoke before me & was very interested in open textbooks. So a good day’s work

Rotterdam
Did keynote this morning then managed a couple of museums before heading home
Streets of Rotterdam
I am giving a keynote tomorrow so flew to Amsterdam this evening & was driven to Rotterdam. It was about 10pm by the time I got into the hotel, so quick cup of tea then bed
The beard guys
Jesse Stommel & Sean Michael Morris of Digital Pedagogy Lab were on campus today so I grabbed a selfie along with my colleague Simon. Beards compulsory
Dinner
Had a day in meetings & presenting then a few of us went to the Keg for some fine steak. We got a hotel sorted but at about 3 times the price – I expect some wrangling will commence with the travel agent when we return.
Florence
I flew to Florence today to give a keynote tomorrow. Didn’t get in until late so no chance of a gallery but did some walking – this is the view from my room
Oxford
Was up to Oxford today for a session on the Doctoral Training Partnership (I have a student as part of it). I don’t go to Oxford often but when I do I think it’s lovely but looking st the shops and buildings it’s as unlike most British cities as, say, Paris or Beijing. It’s often presented as a model of Britishness but it’s a very peculiar type of Britishness – I’m glad it exists though
Leaving do
My colleague Will Woods left the OU today. We worked together for over 20 years, Will was part of the team that I worked with to develop the OUs first elearning course in 1999. We both then moved from Technology to IET. He’s off to be CEO at the open college of Arts.
Everyone’s leaving 🙁
Heading home
Left ALT-C to head home and get Bruno out of kennels again.
Alt C stand
Had a busy day at the conference – my team are working with OpenStax on a project to promote open textbooks in the U.K. They had a stand to sell the, erm, free books.
