It rained most of today, but in a break I took Pip on the beach. The tide was out so we managed to walk a long way on the sand, to the next village. Tried a panorama shot

Sand reflection
Nice reflection of the clouds in the wet sand. Everywhere else in UK was having flurries of snow today, but here it was sunny and blustery.
Rockpooling
As a child, then as a parent, I loved rockpooling. I’d be happy to spend all day hunting around in rockpools. Daughter isn’t with me this week, and is probably too teenage to do rockpooling now, so I pressganged Pip into joining me this morning before the writing commenced.
writing week
I am down in Cornwall for a week writing. I’ve been on study leave for a while but haven’t managed to do any as the normal work (PhD supervision, managerial reports, bid writing, etc) doesn’t go away. So having a definite week is necessary for me. Last year it was Bodmin moor, this year Watergate Bay. Pip comes with me, she likes to discuss OERs, MOOCs, etc
Victors
Cardiff devils after the match tonight – we beat title rivals Nottingham Panthers 7-2. Even if you didn’t know, you could tell by the way the team are standing this was post-victory, there’s more of a slumped, dejected stance after a defeat.
The mist also rises
As I went out for a run this morning, the sunlight was hitting the stream, which combined with the cold air, created a rising mist. Not sure I managed to capture it but you get the idea.
Je suis Asterix
I have a strong objection to the general infantilisation of adulthood, and generally I try to avoid nostalgia. Which is by way of excuse for this recent purchase. I used to read a lot of Asterix, finding it both witty and also faintly reassuring in its style. After the Charlie Hebdo attacks, the artist Uderzo came out of retirement to draw a couple of Je suis Charlie cartoons. Then a couple of days later I was browsing ebay and say this pack of omnibus editions going cheap, and in that impulse buy moment, I put in a bid. They arrived yesterday and I read the first one. It’s still charming, but not as funny as I recall.
High fives
Sorry, another ice hockey photo taken from too far away. I had a plan for another photo today – the receipt for my MA thesis which I handed in yesterday, but I accidentally washed it and it is now a crumpled mess (the receipt, not the thesis).
So, anyway, went to see Devils play Belfast Giants in the Quarter Finals of the Challenge cup tonight. We had already won 4-3 away in the first leg, and won this 4-2 after going 2-0 down. It was a great atmosphere, and we now go through to the semi-finals. Last year Belfast won the league and we finished 9th, so it’s all change.
All the opens
The physical copies of my book were delivered to the OU before Christmas but I haven’t been on campus since. They are really nice. Say what you like about that digital stuff, there’s something about a real book. Particularly when it’s your own.
Camden market
I had a meeting at the OU offices in Camden today. I used to come to Camden market a lot as a yoof – before the internet it was the best place to buy clothes, records, bootleg tapes, etc.
