Technology for dogs

In my building at the OU they are setting up this animal computer interaction lab. It looks interesting, the idea being I guess that with the right interfaces we can get dogs to do a lot more than lead people. I don’t think it would work for either of my dogs though: one would raise a half interested eyebrow and then resume sleeping, the other would jump up at it, wrestle something away, bring it to you, sprint around for 10 minutes, then sleep.

I’m a little bit country

So having spent the week in a great city (Berlin) I was back home today. I admire people who are definitely one thing, and sometimes fear I’m a bit amorphous. I loved the city & thought yeah, I’m a city kinda guy. Then I come home & think ‘it’s good to be out on nature on your own with the dogs’. Like Marie Osmond, I guess I’m a little bit country, I’m a little bit rock n roll…

Buns this way

At OKFest this dog sat outside the bun van every day. I like to think his patience paid off in the end and he got a bun. Left the conference at lunchtime. They had gone for the unconference approach,so apart from keynotes all the sessions were discussion and activity based, not presentations. I have to say that the venue, although cool, really wasn’t well suited and you couldn’t hear anything in many sessions. Also, I really missed being given some useful info that I didn’t have before. Bring back bulleted powerpoint slides I say!

Berlin Cathedral

I had the morning to look around before the conference started. I went to Museum Island (now there’s an island to be stranded on). I only had time to go around the Neues museum, but can say I have done ancient egypt now. This was the cathedral at about 9.30 this morning.

Hell, Hefe & Dunkel

I am in Berlin for a few days for the Open Knowledge Festival. My colleagues Rob Farrow & Beck Pitt are here also, and tonight we went to a bier kellar place and had a massive plate of meat and these large beers. They’re like three superheroes, Hell, Hefe and Dunkel. Mine was the hefe.

French roast

Continuing my “Martin does basic cooking” improvements, I did a roast chicken today. I followed the French roast recipe in Leith’s which involved some garlic, lots of butter and cooking it breast side down in 2cm of water for the first 30 mins. Was jolly nice I have to say.
