Actually, our light fitting, but I took one photo with flash on, which created the dark shadows and made it look (to me anyway) quite arachnid.

The key to presentation
is having the right dongle. I have a MacAir now and for two consecutive presentations I have turned up and been unable to present from my machine. So I now have two dongles – one HDMI, one VGA, that form part of the essential travelling kit.
Setting Sun
The sun going down as I left the OU campus
Snowy, foggy church
The church on OU campus, where there was still thick fog and snow this morning, despite being all clear in Cardiff.
Through the ice
My daughter, as seen through a thin sheet of ice
Table of snow
The much anticipated snow arrived today. From the news you would have thought it was the end of days. It snowed for about 4 hours, then turned to rain.
This is our garden table. There’s something a bit melancholic about garden furniture covered in snow I find.
“I had a passion for maps”
We have quite a lot of ordnance survey maps in our house, because my wife is an ultra runner and loves getting up mountains. Like books, maps are an analogue artefact which many people have an affection for. GPS and SatNav are usually better for most navigation, but maps are good for planning journeys and also for the romance of travel.
The title is from Conrad’s Heart of Darkness by the way.
The worry people
My daughter was given these by her gran. They are, apparently Guatemalen by origin. Wikipedia says that “A person (usually a child) who cannot sleep due to worrying can express their worries to a doll and place it under their pillow before going to sleep. Some medical centers use them in conjunction with treatment for disease in children.[3][4] According to folklore, the doll is thought to worry in the person’s place, thereby permitting the person to sleep peacefully”
I don’t like to think of a ten year old as having worries, but it occurred to me that we could do with these on a national level. Eurocrisis? Unemployment? Pensions? Don’t worry, let the worry people take them away…
It also has echoes of the series The Tomorrow People, except The Worry People would be a much more angst-ridden, depressing watch.
