… is having friends who write books. John Naughton, my long time colleague and friend at the OU, and writer of the Observer’s excellent internet column, has a new book out. It breaks down the important lessons of the internet into 9 essential ideas, such as ‘For the Net, disruption is a feature, not a bug’. While being aimed at a general audience it manages to get across some very complex ideas. It’s the type of book I wish politicians, broadcasters and lawyers would read before pronouncing idiotic judgements about the net.
This is a review copy, it comes out in January. You know at least three people who should read it.

Looking down on Caerphilly Castle
From up on Caerphilly Common. The snow had cleared today. And the cafe does a mean breakfast roll.
This looks almost toy-like I thought.
Snowy ridge
My run today went up along the ridgeway to Caerphilly Common. It was snowy and cold up top, and slippery and boggy on the way down.
Rebel fighter relaxing

Candle in a cage
This is on our shelves with a lamp behind it. Free the candle!
Waiting
At the toll booths to cross into Wales.
I hate winter blipping – many days I drive to work in the dark, spend the entire day in meetings, then drive home in the dark. There are very few photo opportunities in this type of day, so apologies for the crapness of this one
Dusk at the OU library
The OU once did an April Fool’s joke around these pillars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9grJ5fHoZ4
