The wrong team https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/the-wrong-team/ https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/the-wrong-team/#respond Wed, 14 Jun 2017 00:00:00 +0000 http://edtechie.net/delay/?p=4857 Passed this discarded flyer for our local Conservative MP who lost his seat last week. “Part of Theresa May’s team” it proudly declared. How’d that work out for you?

Well, well https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/well-well/ https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/well-well/#respond Fri, 09 Jun 2017 00:00:00 +0000 http://edtechie.net/delay/?p=4867 My pessimism last night was ill founded (still you can’t blame me for having pessimism as default mode). What a strange night – my constituency went back to labour overturning a 2k Tory majority, with a 77% turnout.

For a moment you think a progressive alliance might be possible – we could be a forward looking country. But the latest polls suggest it’ll come out similar to now – but even worse as May has now been weakened and so will do anything to placate the hard right and the Tory press, so things are going to get much, much worse. But hey, it ain’t over till it’s over

He was very inspirational & as an added bonus the wonderful Michael Sheen conducted the interview afterwards.

Vote for me https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/vote-for-me/ https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/vote-for-me/#respond Thu, 18 May 2017 00:00:00 +0000 http://edtechie.net/delay/?p=4911 Continue reading Vote for me →]]> Got a “letter” from Teresa May today as I live in a marginal seat. I’m a realist, I understand people will have reasons to vote Tory. But the pitch they’re making that they’re the party to be trusted over Brexit beggars belief. It’s as if it is a force of nature rather than something they needlessly created. And have then gone on to do the worst job imaginable in managing it. But in a post truth world you claim the positives for yourself that are actually your faults, as Trump did.

Women’s March https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/womens-march-2/ https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/womens-march-2/#respond Sat, 21 Jan 2017 00:00:00 +0000 http://edtechie.net/delay/?p=5478 After the anti Trump rally last night daughter came home & spent the evening making banners for today’s women’s march. While obviously not on the scale of London there was a very good turnout here.

Love Trumps Hate https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/love-trumps-hate/ https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/love-trumps-hate/#respond Fri, 20 Jan 2017 00:00:00 +0000 http://edtechie.net/delay/?p=5480 Continue reading Love Trumps Hate →]]> On Inauguration Day daughter and I went to an anti Trump rally in Cardiff. That’s her holding the E umbrella that spelled out Love Trumps Hate.
I know a small gathering protesting about a US president is not going to have any effect. Partly I think it’s to make ourselves feel better. But also for my daughter (the youngest person there) I like to think it shows that people care and want to resist.
Anyway it was bloody freezing.

Stand up to racism rally https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/stand-up-to-racism-rally/ https://edtechie.net/delay/politics/stand-up-to-racism-rally/#respond Thu, 17 Nov 2016 00:00:00 +0000 http://edtechie.net/delay/?p=4148 Continue reading Stand up to racism rally →]]> Daughter and I went to a stand up to racism rally at Cardiff uni tonight. I sometimes feel these events are more about making ourselves feel better than actually achieving anything. But it was good, all the speakers were articulate and daughter came away inspired. It did feel like being back in the 70s, with rock against racism and the like. This is where we are now.
