This site provides routes for walks or runs from Tongwynlais, Cardiff. Tongwynlais is a small village just on the outskirts of Cardiff, Wales. It marks the shift from city to country and the Welsh valleys. There are a number of different routes that can be taken directly from the centre of Tongwynlais, ranging from 2 to 10 miles, but most around 4-5 miles. They are fairly straightforward to follow and offer a range of forest, hills, canals and a few pubs and cafes.

I used to be a runner, but now just do these walks with my dog, Teilo, but these routes are suitable for running or walking. I’ve rated each one according to the effort level, where roughly low = no ascent, mid = some ascent and high = going up one of the main mountains or hills. If you’re ultra fit then my high level of strenuous will seem easy and similarly if you’re unfit then what I’ve ranked as mid might be tough. I’ve also classified them in the categories as short (roughly 3-4 miles), mid (4-5 miles) and long (above 6 miles). Each route also has a Teilo Wag Factor also, a score out of 5 indicating how much my dog enjoys the walk. Whether this correlates with human enjoyment is not clear.
