Still officially on leave, so my wife, daughter and I went for a 12 mile hike around Brecon today, following the Talybont trial route. We had surprisingly good weather and met lots of others, including the inevitable Duke of Edinburgh award teenagers, and a group doing a caneoing, cycling, walking and camping challenge for charity.
back home today, spent most of the day wading through email, but went out for on my usual route for a run. It’s nice to be back in Cardiff’s web.
At Calais to get the ferry, be home late today/tomorrow
It sure is pretty
Had a nice cycle ride around the lake today, where there are excellent cycle paths for most of the route.
We are staying by the lake and a big old storm blew in tonight.
This is a long tunnel that goes all the way under Mont Blanc, from Italy to France (and vice versa of course).
We stopped off in Chamonix for a few hours which was like a trail-runner’s paradise with the UTMB scheduled to start next week. Then it was on to lake Annecy
My daughter surveys the mountains she conquered the previous day
Went for a 10 mile hike today with wife and daughter. This is looking toward Mont Blanc. Went so high, my daughter had an altitude nosebleed (she thought this was fab), and it started to hail as we descended and the last three miles were in driving rain. But, it was amazing, these are the UTMB trails, and my wife wants to try for the CCC next year, and my daughter to do some walking and stopping in refuges.
The ultra-trail Mont Blanc starts next week, so sadly we won’t be here to see it. Maybe next year we’ll come as it looks amazing.
